Water Damage at Assisted Living in Bel Air, MD 21014

Category: Article • April 3, 2023

In the early hours of the morning, a clogged toilet overflowed in the private bathroom of a unit at a Bel Air Senior Living facility.

The overflowing toilet started in one unit, the water travelled under walls and throughout the carpet to the outer hallway and into an adjoining second unit.

In Emergency Restoration, we focus on three primary categories of water, as designated by the IICRC: The Institute of Cleaning & Restoration Certification.

  • Clear Water is deemed to be safe from harmful contaminants.  Even toilet tank water, if it’s free of visible waste, is deemed by the IICRC to be ‘clear water.’
  • Gray Water is discharge from showers, dishwashers, sinks/tubs, and washing machines.  Gray Water needs to be addressed within the 1st 48 hours before it has the time to develop more contaminants.  When addressed quickly, it poses a minimal threat to people & pets.
  • Black Water is altogether different.  A raw sewage backup is chock-full of harmful contaminants and very hazardous to people & pets.  All sorts of pathogens & diseases live & breed in black water.  There are stringent requirements for how an overflow of black water must be remediated.

All the Emergency Response Techs at Elegant Restoration, Inc.  are IICRC Trained & Certified. We are all pros!

Luckily, there was no human waste present in the water.  This was clear water from the toliet.

The call came in at 4 a.m. to Elegant Restoration’s 24 / 7 / 365 Toll-Free Emergency Line, 866-712-4911.

This client not only has a past relationship with our company but is also an Elegant Restoration Disaster ERP Client.  More details at the end of this project. Here is a vital part of it:

Our Team works with commercial businesses to be ready to respond at any time of day.  You know who is coming to cleanup your facility before you need us. We are service masters!

The Team from Elegant Restoration was quickly dispatched and got to work right away, thanks

to an alert onsite staff at the facility who noticed the problem.

The Team worked efficiently to clean up the water from all walls and flooring to prevent ongoing damage and begin the drying process.

Our team removed the base moldings to allow for drying at the base of the drywall.

Fast action on the Elegant RestorationTeam stops the damage and drying begins to save the flooring and walls.

Our Team followed IICRC guideline for providing equipment to remove and dry the areas affected.

  • commercial, high volume air movers (fans)
  • commercial, high-capacity dehumidifiers

Attention to detail is the hallmark of great service by a professional team. Looking in seemingly out of the way places, like closets, to check for further water intrusion is vital.

Over the next 2 days, our Team members checked on the status of the on-going drying process, taking moisture and humidity readings in the areas affected.

Once all the cleanup and drying was complete, our team retstored the facility to it’s original condition.  The quick response saved flooring and walls and prevented any potential fall hazards for the residents of the facility.

The two residents temporarily displaced were return to their rooms.

The Elegant Restoration advantage.

I mentioned earlier in the article about this client being an Elegant Restoration Disaster ERP Client.  The main advantage is developing a relationship with a trusted partner BEFORE disaster strikes.

It is about keeping your business operational and open.
